Holly Boaz Presents Vocal Recital

02/25/2010

On Saturday March 6th at 7:30pm, Vashon Island soprano Holly Boaz and New York-based pianist Shelby Rhoades will present "To Be Sung on the Water; an evening of art songs and arias" at the Vashon United Methodist Church.

The program will celebrate the moon, the night, the water, the trees, home, dreams, and of course: love, with works by Schubert, Rachmaninov, Dvořák, Britten, and more.

Boaz and Rhoades have collaborated since 2004, when they met at the Aspen Music Festival, and have since performed together in New York, Connecticut, Colorado, Michigan, Ohio, and Washington State.

Boaz has performed with the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Young Artists Program, Tacoma Opera, Connecticut Opera, and the Aldeburgh Festival, and was seen recently by Vashon audiences as the Mother and Grandmother in Vashon Opera's production of "Little Red Riding Hood". She is currently on the faculty of Pacific Lutheran University.

Rhoades is a member of the Vocal Arts Department coaching staff at the Juilliard School in New York and works as a freelance vocal coach and accompanist.

The program will be presented at the Vashon United Methodist Church (17928 Vashon Highway SW, Vashon), with tickets available at Books By the Way and the Vashon Bookshop ($15). Proceeds will be donated to Vashon Opera.
